Spring 2000 Syllabus

C) ASSIGNMENTS: For your first paper, you will be researching a topic of Filipino content you are interested in. YOu may write about an item of folklore, the origins of Filipino dance or dish, the life and contributions of Filipino her/heroine, etc.

FORMAT FOR PAPER TWO: 3 page research paper

a) You must submit a rough outline of the topic you want to cover in order to receive the coordinator's approval - your topic should be noted as the title of your outline; please keep the topic simple.

b) Upon approval of your topic, you will then submit a final paper discussing your topic. Your Paper should include:

  1. TOPIC you chose and reasons for choosing the topic the methods of research you used; which one worked the most/least (i.e. personal interview, books, internet, etc)?
  2. The information you found that is directly related to your topic
  3. Was this assignment helpful in your understanding and learning of Filipino culture? Why or why not?
  4. Have your motives for researching this topic changed in any way? Why or why not?
  5. Bibliography or resources.

Your final paper must be 3 pages long. It must be double-spaced with 12pt font. Professor Castillio will be critiquing and grading your papers. If you have difficulty with your paper, please make arrangements to speak with the coordinators before TUESDAY, APRIL 11, 2000/APRIL 13, 2000.

FORMAT FOR PAPER TWO: 1 Page reflection

FOr your second paper you will reflect on your experience and participation in PASA's PIlipino Cultural Night; this is a free-write but should ultimately answer the question: WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE OF PILIPINO CULTURAL NIGHT? It must be at least 1 page long and doubled-spaced with 12pt font.

YOU may support your response by including any of the following:

  1. What you wanted to learn by joining PCN/Theatre 3311
  2. Your initial impression of PCN/Theatre 3311
  3. Your experience of the friendships you made(if any)
  4. A brief discussion of the difficulties you encountered and how you overcame them (if any)
  5. Compare and contrast PASA's PCN with previous /those of other schools
  6. Analyses of interactions among PCN participants
  7. How you felt about your performance/participation in PCN/Theatre 3311

There is no midterm for the course; the final examination will be your participation in PCN.
